Cryolipolysis
Cryolipolysis is more commonly known as CoolSculpting, and it is a method of removing unwanted fat cells. It is considered to be a non-surgical alternative to traditional liposuction, as it does not involve any invasive techniques. CoolSculpting uses controlled cooling of the areas being treated, which leads to the fat cells under the skin being destroyed, without causing any harm to the skin itself.
CoolSculpting was given FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration) approval in September 2010, for the reduction of fat in specific areas of the body. It is most commonly used around the thighs and buttocks, and it can reduce the fat in these specific regions by up to 25 percent with a single treatment. The changes will become noticeable after the procedure, although not immediately, with the treated region continuing to improve for up to four months after CoolSculpting has been carried out. At this stage, further treatment can be performed in order to give even greater improvements. The results generally last for at least six months, although the long term improvements are not yet known. As fat cells are being removed, it is predicted that overall results will be similar to those seen in traditional liposuction.
CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure, which means that you should be able to return to work immediately, and exercise need not be avoided. It is likely that you will experience some redness, bruising and swelling around the treated area, which should all resolve within a few weeks. A temporary loss of sensation may also be noticed. However, these are minor side effects that do not last long.
