Laser Treatment of Spider Veins
Varicose veins are a relatively common condition, and usually affect the legs, although they can also occur in other regions of the body. Spider veins are smaller versions that are also seen on the face. These conditions are usually not harmful in any way, but they are unsightly, which leads many people to seek treatment to remove the red or blue lines that can be seen through the skin.
Laser therapy for veins is becoming a popular option for patients who are looking to reduce the appearance of either spider or varicose veins, because it offers several advantages over more traditional surgical treatments. There are two main forms of laser therapy that can be used for treating veins. Simple laser therapy is best for spider veins, or those that are just below the surface, and several sessions will need to be scheduled approximately six weeks apart. This method has been available for over twenty years, and has been shown to be both safe and effective.
Endovenous laser therapy is used for treating larger varicose veins, and is a much newer form of treatment. It involves a narrow tube being placed into the vein, and then the laser fibre is inserted. Local anaesthetic or a sedative will be used to make this procedure more comfortable, but a general anaesthetic is not required, which is one of the advantages of using laser therapy for veins. This method is effective for approximately 94 percent of varicose veins after just one treatment. Be sure to choose a surgeon with considerable experience, to achieve the best results.
